Privacy Policy

This policy was last modified on February 13, 2009.

Your privacy is important. Acceity will not collect personal information from you unless you choose to post a comment to this site. If you do post a comment, you will be required to enter three pieces of personal information: your name, your e-mail address, and your comment itself. You may also choose, at your discretion, to add a URL to your own blog or website. The first section of this privacy policy explains how Acceity uses these personal bits of information.

Acceity also collects aggregate data from visitors. Acceity will never share this data. Moreover, Acceity will never use the aggregate data it collects for the purpose of identifying you or your personal information. This means that all aggregate data collected by Acceity is anonymous. The second section of this privacy policy states what kinds of anonymous data Acceity collects and details how this data is used.

This privacy policy may occasionally change, but the most recent version will always be available at this page (http://www.acceity.org/privacy/). Changes to this policy will not affect any data which had already been collected, but will impact the use and handling of any data collected after the modification is made. The date of the most recent modification to this policy will always be listed at the top of this page. Please stay abreast of any changes to this policy by checking this page regularly.

Personal Information

Acceity only collects personal information when you post a comment. There are four types of personal information that could be collected:

Your E-Mail Address:

What is it?
The e-mail address you provide when you post a comment at Acceity.

When is it collected?
Every time you post a comment; only if you post a comment.

Why is it collected?
Requiring an e-mail address discourages anonymous visitors from clogging the site with pointless or impolite comments. Also, your email address makes it easier for Acceity's author to contact you if there is a specific issue with your comment. However, neither Acceity nor its author will ever send unsolicited material, newsletters, or SPAM to your e-mail address.

What does it reveal about me?
At the very least, your e-mail address reveals a way to contact you. It may reveal more, depending on whether or not you have included any personally identifiable information (such as your name or gender) in your e-mail address.

Will it be shared?
No! Acceity and its author will never share or publicly display your e-mail address.

Your Name:

Why is it collected?
It gives you credit for your comment.

What does it reveal about me?
This is up to you. When you comment, you may choose to enter your real name, or a part of it, or your initials. If you wish to comment without revealing your identity, you may enter a nickname or a pseudonym instead.

Will it be shared?
Yes! The name you provide will be printed alongside your comment to give you credit for your contribution.

Will it be shared?
Yes! If you offer a website URL, visitors will be able to access that website by clicking the name you listed above your comment.

Anonymous Data

Acceity collects anonymous data from all visitors to the site. All of this data is kept in aggregate form; it is never used to profile individual visitors. The resulting statistics are used for technical purposes or for measuring the general popularity and usefulness of the site. The following kinds of data are collected:

IP Address:

What is it?
Your IP address is a series of numbers or letters representing your computer's network location (i.e., its connections to other computers).

When is it collected?
Every time you visit the site.

Why is it collected?
Your IP address allows the web server running Acceity to communicate with your computer. Without your IP address, the server would be unable to send your computer the data that make up this or any other web site. All web sites require this information.

What does it reveal about me?
Your IP address, on its own, does not reveal your personal identity, your street address, or your precise location. It may be correlated with your approximate geographic region. Your IP address may also be used to identify your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Acceity keeps a tally of the geographic regions and ISPs of all the visitors to this site, but these records are kept as aggregate totals only. Acceity will never keep individual records of the geographic regions and ISPs of specific visitors.

Will it be shared?
No. Acceity and its author will never share or publicly display your IP address or the IP address of any other visitor. Furthermore, Acceity and its author will never share or publicly display any information derived from your IP address or the IP address of any other visitor.

Computer Configuration:

What is it?
Acceity logs information about your computer system including the name and version of your operating system, the name and version of your web browser, the names and versions of your web browser plug-ins or addons, your screen resolution, and your screen color depth.

When is it collected?
Every time you visit the site.

Why is it collected?
This data is collected for the sole purpose of continuously refining Acceity to work optimally on the wide variety of computer setups in use by the site's visitors. Nearly all sites on the Internet collect this information.

What does it reveal about me?
Your computer configuration, on its own, does not reveal your personal identity or other personal information. Acceity keeps a tally of all the various computer settings of all of its visitors, but these records are kept as aggregate totals only. Acceity will never keep individual records of computer configurations linked to specific visitors. Acceity will never use your computer configuration in an attempt to track your computer's individual path across this or any other website.

Will it be shared?
No. Acceity and its author will never share or publicly display any information about the configuration of your computer or the computer of any visitor.

Referrer:

What is it?
If you arrived at Acceity by clicking a link at another site, the address of that site (the "referrer") will be logged.

When is it collected?
Every time you visit Acceity by clicking on a link from another web site.

Why is it collected?
This information makes it possible to see what other websites are referencing or directing people to Acceity.

What does it reveal about me?
The address of a referring website, on its own, does not reveal your personal identity or any other personal information. Acceity keeps a tally of all the websites which have referred visitors, and a tally of how many visitors each website has referred. These records are kept as aggregate totals only. Acceity will never keep records of which websites have referred individual visitors.

Will it be shared?
No. Acceity and its author will never share or publicly display which web site directed you or any other visitor here.

Access Statistics:

What are they?
Access statistics consist of a running total of all the visits made to each page at this website, including the date and time of each visit.

When are they collected?
Every time you access any page at this website.

Why are they collected?
Access statistics allow the author of the site to see which pages are popular and observe what time most visitors like to browse the site.

What do they reveal about me?
Nothing. Acceity does not log which pages are accessed by individual visitors; it only logs the total number of visitors to each page.

Will they be shared?
No. Acceity and its author will never share or publicly display the access statistics collected from you or any other visitor.
